Jack Aborn served as a key member of the Bay State Games Archery committee since the sport was added to the Bay State Games in the early 1990’s. Jack was a dedicated worker and strong supporter of the Bay State Games. He also was a strong proponent of youth participation in sport especially the sport of Archery. The Bay State Games was deeply saddened by the passing of Jack Aborn in 2007. To honor Jack’s memory, his support of the Bay State Games and his dedication to youth in sport, we have created the Bay State Games Archery Jack Aborn Memorial Scholarship.

The Bay State Games Archery Jack Aborn Memorial Scholarship is a $250 Scholarship that will be awarded to a participant in the Bay State Games Archery competition.

To be eligible for the Jack Aborn Memorial Scholarship, participants must be age 21 or younger and must be registered to participate in the 2010 Bay State Games Archery competition. The scholarship must be used for educational purposes including college or private school tuition, an educational class, books or school fees or other educational related expenses.

To be considered for the scholarship, athletes age 21 or younger who compete in the 2010 Bay State Games Archery competition must fill out this application and return it to Bay State Games 55 Sixth Road Woburn, MA 01801. The application deadline is JUNE 30, 2010. Applications will be forwarded to a review committee which will include members of the Aborn family. The winner will be announced at the 2010 Archery finals on July 18 at the Devens Recreation Complex.

2009 Jack Aborn Memorial Archery Scholarship Winner

The 2009 Jack Aborn Memorial Archery Scholarship was awarded to Amanda Ferrie of Auburn, Mass. Amanda is currently a senior Johnson & Wales where she has twice been named to the Dean’s List and started an archery program. She is ranked in the top 20 nationally as a collegiate archer. Amanda participated in Bay State Summer Games archery competition in 2004-2007 and in 2009

2008 Jack Aborn Memorial Archery Scholarship Winner

The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation (MASF) is proud to name Lauren Jensen, of Bellingham, MA, the winner of the first annual Bay State Games Archery Jack Aborn Memorial Scholarship.

Jensen, a sophomore at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, has participated in the Bay State Summer Games archery competition for the last seven years. She has competed in archery since the age of 8. Jensen has been ranked #1 in Massachusetts for most of her career and is currently in the Top 20 nationally. A well-rounded student, she’s also received several awards for academic achievement, community service and marching band.

“Lauren is just the type of young person that my father would want to support – motivated, energetic, and earnest,” said Katy Aborn, Jack’s daughter who, along with her brother James, was instrumental in the creation of the scholarship.
