General Information | Internship Positions | Former Interns/Employees
The Bay State Games internship program offers candidates the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in all phases of sports management including marketing, promotion, media relations, event management, operations, budgeting, logistics, participant safety and risk management. Bay State Games has had a long and successful history with the UMass Amherst Sports Management program. Many UMass Amherst Sports Management students have been selected for the Bay State Games internship program over the last 30 years. Unlike typical internships, students won’t just be assisting full-time staff on projects or running office errands. The Bay State Summer Games involve over 7,000 athletes in 27 different sports at 18 competition venues over three straight weeks. The entire operation is run by three full-time staff with assistance from 6-7 interns. Interns will be the primary point of contact for the events and projects to which they have been assigned. Bay State Games interns are in many ways considered temporary full-time employees. They are given a great deal of responsibility and are expected to work hard, long hours to accomplish great things with limited resources. While Bay State Games internships require a lot of effort and a considerable time commitment, the rewards are significant. Former interns have used their Bay State Games experience to secure top-notch positions in the sports industry once they have graduated from college. Former UMass Sports Management students who have interned at the Bay State Games have gone onto successful positions in sports which include Assistant Communications Director of the Big East Conference, Assistant Sports Information Director at the University of Arkansas, General Manager of the Springfield Armor NBA Developmental League Franchise and Athletic Facilities Manager at St John’s University in New York City.
